The Merits and Virtues from Upholding “Sutra of Infinite and Wisdom”--Master Zhenlin

I have met recently a number of Buddhist believers who are either diagnosed with cancer or strange diseases or have encountered tough challenges in life. They believe in Buddhism, but are unable to change their fate or rid themselves of the pain, either because they are illiterate, or disabled. I would like to share with you the merits and virtues of upholding the Sutra of Immeasurable Life and Wisdom (《佛说圣者无量寿智大乘陀罗尼经》). This is indeed one of the best treasures that the Buddha gives to us. I hope more can be blessed by the light of kindness and compassion of Him by upholding, learning, and reciting it, and attain bliss and be free from the pain.

Humans are short-lived. Some can live up to 100 years old, but most cannot. If men and women of pure faith can recite and uphold the Sutra, or write or copy it down by themselves, or ask others to copy the Sutra, or hear the name of the Sutra, read and memorize it, or make it into a book and enshrine it somewhere clean at home, and make offerings to it of fragrant flowers and incense, they will be able to live up to 100 years old even though their predestined lifespan may soon be over. After death, they will be born into the Worlds of Infinite Life, Wisdom, and Merits, and Virtues.

If men and women of pure faith often hear about the 108 names of Buddha of Infinite Life and Wisdom, their life span will be extended. If they are about to die, they can still survive for a longer time than otherwise would should they be able to uphold the names of the Buddha. If they can write the Sutra down, copy it , or ask others to copy it, they will not be born into hell, or a beast, a ghost, or somewhere they may suffer after the present life is over. All the beings, wherever they are born, will be able to recall their previous life. If you can copy or photocopy the Sutra, or tell others to copy it, the merits and virtues amassed are as enormous as having copied all the eighty-four thousand kinds of teachings by Buddha.

If some can copy the Sutra, or ask others to copy it, the merits and virtues amassed are as huge as upholding and making abide the eighty-four thousand kinds of teachings by Buddha.

If some can copy the Sutra, or ask others to copy it, the five grand offenses committed (killing the father, harming the mother, abortion, injuring the Buddha, and creating disharmony among the Sangha Assembly) shall be extinguished.

If some can copy the Sutra, or ask others to copy it, , they will be exempted from the offenses committed even if they may be as huge as Mount. Sumeru.

If some can copy the Sutra, or ask others to copy it, , no devils, yaksha, or raksha can hurt them even they have the intention do to so.

If some can copy the Sutra, or ask others to copy it, 9.9 billion Buddhas will appear before them to preach, and there will be 1,000 Buddha hands rubbing their heads. They shall be able to travel from one Buddhaland to another. You should not harbour any doubt about it.

If some can copy down or photocopy the Sutra, or ask others to copy or photocopy it down, the Four Heavenly Kings shall always protect them and keep them away from danger.

If some can copy the Sutra, or ask others to copy it, they shall be born in the Land of Utmost Bliss of Amitayus after the present life is over.

Where the Sutra is written, it shall become a stupa. Should an animal hear of the Sutra, it can attain anuttarasamyaksambodhi.

If you can donate even one cent to help make the Sutra known by more, the merits and virtues of doing so are as big as having donated all the 7 gems in a Three Thousand Great Thousand-World System.

If you make offerings to the Sutra, it is as good as to all the Dharma gems.

If someone makes offerings with the seven gems to Vipasyin, Sikhin, Vessabhu, Konàgamana Krakucchanda, Kassapa, and Sakyamuni, the merits and virtues of doing so can be measured. However, if you make offerings to the Buddha of Infinite Life and Wisdom, the merits and virtues are immeasurable.

If you make offerings with the 7 gems as huge as the size of Mount Sumeru, the merits and virtues can be measured. However, if you make offerings to the Buddha of Infinite Life and Wisdom, the merits and virtues are immeasurable.

While the water drops of the four oceans can be measured, the merits and virtues of upholding the Sutra is immeasurable. If some can copy the Sutra, or ask others to copy it, , and make offerings to it with full respect, it is as good as to all the Tathagatas in all the Buddhalands of the ten directions.
